In the despatch from this office of the 5th instant, by the Chinese Sea Customs Commissioner is meant Hai-Kuan-Chien-tu, as he is the formal head of the Sea Customs Authorities. The letter should be directed to him. In the note to the Chinese Customs Commissioner it is requested to bring our point of view to the knowledge of the foreign sea customs director.

After the official notice I beg to offer you my best thanks for your friendly lines of the 2nd instant. In the meantime the Hongkong Germans have arrived here a sorrowful looking little crowd.

I hope they will soon have regained some confidence. The great fanatic Fraser does his best to set everyone
